DONALD MACKENZIE SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR DISSERTATION RESEARCH
The Donald MacKenzie Scholarship Fund makes funds available to support the dissertation research of students enrolled in the Department of Educational Leadership’s School Leadership program. The Scholarship was established in 2001 to honor Donald MacKenzie, former Chairman and member of the Department of Educational Leadership.
AMOUNT OF AWARD: An award of $500 is made annually.
ELIGIBILITY: Doctoral candidates enrolled in the Department of Educational Leadership’s School Leadership Program who are engaged in dissertation research are eligible to apply for the award. The student’s dissertation committee must have approved the dissertation proposal by the time of submission for a Donald MacKenzie Scholarship. Denial of funding does not affect eligibility in subsequent semesters.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: Submit a proposal which addresses the following areas. Total length of the proposal must not exceed 10 double-spaced typewritten pages (12 point font), including the pages for budget and references. 1. Problem. Briefly describe the proposed research project. If appropriate, state the problem in measurable terms; state hypotheses in operational terms. 2. Significance of Proposed Project. Explain why project is important. Describe the theoretical basis or rational for the project and how the study may contribute to a given body of knowledge. 3. Procedures. Briefly and as precisely as possible describe the research methodology and procedures. For a quantitative study, describe the independent and dependent variables in precise terms and describe sampling, sample size instruments, reliability, validity, and descriptive and inferential statistical analysis (inclusion of diagrams illustrating the procedures, the measures and their relationship to the hypotheses is useful). For a qualitative study, specify the basic methodology to be used (archival research, case studies, oral history, interviews, etc.). Note location of sources (specific archives, public documents collections, libraries, etc.) and any external resource people who need to be consulted. 4. Budget and Justification. On a separate page, show the budget and provide a justification for funding the project. 5. References. On a separate page, list the references referred to in the proposal.
