Alumni Donors
Often our graduates have
enjoyed their program so much they have said ‘How can I give something
back?’ There are many ways in which being a graduate of the Department
of Educational Leadership might assist you in achieving your career
goals. If this is the case, then you, too, may wish to give something
back to the department. If this applies to you and you would like to
pass your good fortune forward, here are some ways that you can help us.
1. Keep in touch…let us know what you are doing and if you change what
you are doing, then let us know that too.
2. Tell others about us…if you enjoyed your program tell your
colleagues. If there were things that need to be improved, tell us.
3. Come back again…if you have completed your masters degree here you
can come back for further study at the specialist or doctoral levels.
Many people have two degrees from the department and some have three:
masters, specialist and doctorate.
4. Become an Adjunct for FAU…if you have a doctoral degree with us, you
can adjunct for us. We are always looking to support the passing on of
knowledge and you may be interested in working with the next generation
of leaders. If you feel you could contribute in this way, contact the
Chair, Tony Townsend at
townsend@fau.edu.
5. Become a guest speaker…many of you have the specific experiences that
relate to the work we are doing. Your experiences can be used to build
on the theories we talk about to make our work come alive to students.
Consider offering yourself as a guest speaker to one of our programs.
6. Help us to improve what we do…consider serving as part of an alumni
committee to review the current mission statement, program or specific
courses to make sure they are relevant to a rapidly changing world. If
you are interested in working with the faculty to improve our programs
contact us at edleadership@fau.edu.
7. Send us something for the alumni news…we are interested in your
story. If you would like to send us a short piece about the work you do
or something interesting that has happened to you, we would like to put
it (with photos if possible) onto our website.
8. Support the next generation of leaders…you could make a gift to form
a scholarship or you could contribute to the ongoing support of a
scholarship already in place. Any funds that you provide in this way are
matched by the institution. If you made a pledge to contribute $500 per
years for five years, this money would be used to support other students
through the program. Of course, the pledge could be more or less than
this amount. It is the pledge to support us that is most important,
because it demonstrates that you think what we do is worthwhile.
9. Support our operations…you could make a one time gift, an ongoing
pledge or an endowment that will support the development of the
department. Such a gift could be used to support valuable research into
leadership or the offering of programs to special groups that may not be
able to afford them. There are many activities which you might help to
finance, with just a small gift on a regular basis.
