WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP
PHD IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP
The department has a long history of service to
the South Florida community at the doctoral level. Our first graduate
completed their degree in 1973 and since that time nearly 400 students
have completed a doctorate in Educational Leadership with this
department. In fact over 30% of all doctoral graduates at FAU have come
from this department. The list of graduates and their
dissertation titles are contained on this
website, and
it is possible to access many of those
dissertations
online through the FAU library.
The following are the objectives for the Doctor of Philosophy programs.
Graduates of the PhD in Educational leadership will:
1.
Be grounded in the theoretical perspectives of
the field of leadership, enabling them to practice from a scholar leader
perspective to make informed decisions.
2.
Be skilled in analysis and evaluation of
research and practice.
3.
Apply research skills, which enable them to
produce original scholarship and solve problems, in both basic and
applied research and to become active contributors to expanding the
knowledge base of the discipline.
4.
See organizations as dynamic and complex
agencies and understand them as systems in which changing one part of
the organization affects other parts of the organization.
5.
Be committed to maintaining a cohesive,
respectful, and supportive work environment that stimulates
collaborative and continuous learning.
6.
Be committed to addressing and honoring
diversity and multicultural characteristics throughout their
organizations, respecting all individuals regardless of gender,
ethnicity, race, or differing ability.
7.
Be competent in the use of current educational
technology and interactive methodologies to enhance effectiveness and
access.
8.
Actively participate in programs of learned
societies and professional service alliances, which contribute to the
knowledge base of their disciplines.
9.
Demonstrate skills and capacity to envision
the future and identify opportunities within and outside their
organizations.
10.
Be able to analyze and understand the social,
political, technological, and economic contexts that surround and impact
their management structures and planned curricula.
11.
Be able to work effectively with all
stakeholders in the educational enterprise, both internal and external.
12.
Demonstrate a commitment to high ethical and
moral standards of professional practice.
13.
Be reflective, self-directed leaders who are
lifelong learners, engaged in continuous personal and professional
enhancement.
